CLUB REPORT Field of 18 anglers competed For most the idea of Lake Jackson in the winter is filled with the possibility of a lunker on any cast. Most patterns in the winter relate to flipping jigs, throwing deep cranks on rock and deep ledge fishing. This didn’t get it done for us on Sunday. All anglers brought fish to the scales but not many were quality fish. The day turned out to be beautiful and was the third day in a row of warmer temps raising the water temp some 6-8 degrees in about a week’s time. Bob Croxton brought in the winning sack; a combination of lips and spots that weighed a solid 9.12lbs. His catch was anchored by the big fish of the tournament a nice lip that tipped the scales at 3.92lbs. Bob’s winning pattern was a light jig head worm fished on long tapering points near deep water. His big fish came just inside a cut off the main lake where a tree had fallen into the water, the fish was caught in the blow down. Bob also reported that he boated a few keepers on a sexy shad series 3 strike king crank bait. Robby Richardson was on Bob’s heels all day but couldn’t find that big fish as he usually does. Robby turned in a mixed sack of lips and spots, as well, that pushed the scales to 8.50lbs. Robby told me that the best bite was the finesse bite, with a spot sticker and a green pumpkin finesse worm fished right up on the banks shallow. Robby stated he caught his biggest fish on a blue/black jig while trying to change things up, but that was the only bite he had on the jig. Kenny Gaddis and Justin Beaty fished from the same boat and consequently turned in sacks of 8.48lbs and 6.94lbs respectively. These sacks brought Kenny 3rd and Justin 4th. They both threw the same Yamamoto, discontinued, brown creepy crawler all day. They targeted shallow boat docks, most of which contained brush. Kenny and Justin both reported the bite on the brown jig as being steady all day. They both threw cranks with no success in the same areas. Todd Noble fished, as a prospective member, with me on Sunday. I watched as Todd proceeded to show me how to fish some of Jackson’s moderately deep brush. Todd brought 5 fish to the scale for a total of 6.5 lbs. Todd caught his first fish on a crank bait near brush that had been placed on chunk rock in about 12’ of water. The crank bait was a Norman deep little N with blue and chartreuse. All Todd’s other fish came from the same depth brush with a spot sticker and a pumpkin dead ringer with the tail dipped in chartreuse. Ricky Swafford turned in a bag of 5.96 lbs which was good enough only for 6th place. Ricky junked fish all day, all over the lake. Rocks, points, ledges, brush and boat docks. He reported catching all his keeping fish on the same brown Yamamato jig that Justin and Kenny were throwing. All in all it was a good day for Meadowcreek Bass Club. It turned out to be a beautiful day on the water and most all brought fish to the scales. We are still accepting memberships for the 2008 season so come on by and see us at Boating Atlanta, off Buford Hwy in Flowery Branch, on Monday February 4th at 730pm and then fish with us on Sunday Feb 10th at Lake Harding AKA Bartlett’s Ferry. Again thanks to the sponsors of the 2007 top six: Tru-Tungsten MDH |
